'Breds Fall To #19 Ole Miss

The Murray State baseball team fell to nineteenth ranked Ole Miss, 9-3, on Tuesday in Oxford, Miss. The Thoroughbreds (1-9) matched the Rebels' (9-3) 11 hits but stranded seven runners on base.

Seth Hudson led MSU at the plate with a three-for-three day. Michal Perconte, Brett Wilson and Phil Lopez each drove in one run.

Kalen Gibson suffered the loss on the mound for the ?Breds. The senior allowed six runs on six hits in five innings of work and fell to 0-3 on the season.

Ole Miss got six scoreless innings from its starter, Brett Bukvich. Bukvich struck out seven batters while allowing four hits and a pair of walks.

Catcher Justin Brashear led the Rebel offense, going two-for-four with two runs scored and three driven in. Mark Wright finished two-for-three with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Murray State finally got to the Ole Miss pitching in the ninth inning. The Thoroughbreds led off the inning with five straight hits.

Pittman got things started with a single through the right side. Lincoln Kent followed with a double to right center to put two runners in scoring position. Perconte's single to left center scored Pittman for MSU's first run of the game.

Wilson plated another run with an RBI single through the left side. Micah Dunn's single up the middle capped Murray State's string of five straight hits to start the ninth inning.

Lopez's fly ball to left field was deep enough for Perconte to tag up and score from third base. The ?Breds scoring ended there. After Lopez's sacrifice fly, Brett Mullins grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.

MSU will conclude its two-game series with the Rebels today at 3 p.m., in Oxford, Miss.
