Sports Medicine
The Murray State Sports Medicine Department is an integral part of the athletic department and seeks to maintain the highest level of excellence in sports medicine, just as it does in providing education, leadership and opportunity to hundreds of young men and women participating in a variety of athletic endeavors.
The primary objective of the department is to provide the highest level sports medicine care to the intercollegiate student-athletes of Murray State University. This includes the prevention, diagnosis, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses as well as helping to direct the nutritional, physiological, and psychological needs of the student-athlete.
Murray State University endorses the concept that the injured or ill athlete is, first and foremost, a patient. With this concept in mind, we have a staff that includes a team physician, three full-time certified athletic trainers, one intern athletic trainer and four graduate assistant athletic trainers that work together to provide healthcare services to all student-athletes in the department. All of the athletic trainers are certified by the Board of Certification for athletic training and carry the designation of 'ATC.' They are also licensed by the Board of Medical Licensure in the state of Kentucky. The ATC is skilled and knowledgeable in five areas, otherwise recognized as the five domains of athletic training.
