
Rifle Wins Season-Opener At Tennessee-Martin

The Murray State rifle team won its season-opening match at Tennessee-Martin on Saturday. MSU Gold scored a 4556 out of a possible 4800, while MSU Blue had a 4436. Tennessee-Martin's Mixed team scored a 4395, while the UTM Women's team scored a 2156 out of a possible 2400 in air rifle.
MSU Gold shot a 2299 out of a possible 2400 in smallbore and a 2257 in air rifle, while MSU Blue shot a 2218 in smallbore and a 2223 in air rifle.
"We shot a little less than we expected to," said MSU rifle coach Morgan Hicks, "but now, we know where we need to improve. Hopefully, we will do better next weekend."
For MSU Gold, junior Cameron Hicks fired a 576 out of a possible 600 in smallbore and a 574 out of a possible 600 in air rifle for an aggregate (combined) score of 1150. Junior Dan Belluzzo shot a 570 in smallbore and a 574 in air rifle for an 1144 aggregate, while junior Josiah Brooks had a 558 in smallbore and a 570 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1128. Sophomore Kevin Witbrodt fired a 581 in air rifle, while freshman Harley Jette had a 553 in smallbore.
For MSU Blue, sophomore Erica Meece had a 549 in smallbore and a 569 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1118. Freshman Kasey Meyer shot a 539 in smallbore and a 577 in air rifle for an 1116 aggregate, while sophomore Joe Shane fired a 547 in smallbore and a 520 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1067. Witbrodt shot a 578 in smallbore, while Jette fired a 557 in air rifle.
Murray State will take part in the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday, then will participate in the Memphis Tiger Open on Oct. 8.
