Murray State took advantage of five Mississippi Valley State errors to push across six unearned runs and that was more than enough for right hander Dan Huff as the ?Breds handed the Delta Devils a 7-0 loss Wednesday afternoon at Reagan Field.
Huff (3-0) limited limited MVSU to six hits and struck out four in seven shutout innings. Huff did not allow more than one hit in an inning and only allowed one runner to reach second base.
The ?Breds (10-3) took advantage of a throwing error in the second inning to push across three runs. With one out, Zach Noonan reached on a throwing error by the third baseman. Jonathan Craycraft followed with a double down the right-field line to put two runners in scoring position. Daniel Miller plated the first runner with a slow roller to first base. Elliot Frey followed with an RBI single to right field. The third run scored when Kyle Tiernan's hard-hitter grounder turned into an RBI double as the ball took a big hop over the head of the first baseman.
MSU doubled its lead in the sixth as two more Delta Devil errors led to three unearned runs. The inning started with a Jason Laws single to left field. Following a balk, Zach Noonan delivered an RBI single to center field. Craycraft blooped a single into left center before Miller's bunt attempt was thrown away at third, allowing a runner to score. With the bases loaded and one out, Wes Cunningham's fly ball into right center was dropped by the center fielder, allowing the third run of the inning to score.
The ?Breds capitalized on another MVSU error in the eighth as Kyle Tiernan beat out an infield single and came around to score when Cunningham's fly ball into left center was dropped by the left fielder.
Scott Mills (1-1) took the loss for the Delta Devils as he gave up five runs, one earned, on eight hits over five-plus innings.
Craycraft led the ?Breds offense with three hits, while Kyle Tiernan added two.
MSU relievers Lucas Allen and Bradley Cobb retired all six hitters they faced to end the game.
The ?Breds return to the diamond Friday as they open a three-game series at St. Louis.
