Racers Run Strong at Notre Dame Invitational

The Murray State men's and women's cross country team competed at the Notre Dame Invitational at South Bend, Indiana. The men participated in the Gold 5-mile race, while the girls were split into the JV and Gold race which both were 5ks. The women finished 18th out of 27 teams, while the men finished 19th out of 23 teams.
The top five women moved onto the Murray State top 20 all-time list. The women were led by Alicyn Hester who finished in 17:57.00. Meagan Smith finished in 18:07.7, followed by Caroline Grogan (18:19.80), Abbie Oliver (18:29.80), Leah Krause (18:34.10), and Kati Heil (18:44.1). Emily Flaherty (19:07.30) and Felizitas Mueller (20:33.10) finished up the Gold 5k to bring the women into 18th. Three women competed in the JV 5k. Elizabeth Lay finished in 20:12.80, while Jacquelyn Thate finished in 20:16.4 followed by Heatherly Paschall who finished in 21:00.8.
The men were led by Gavin Galanes who finished in 25:52.7 in the 5 mile Gold race. Cole Cisneros (26:06.6), Mark Ventura (26:24.4), and Lucas Prather (26.32.2) kept close to each other to keep the team score low. Evan Staviski (27:01.0), Jarred Koerner (27:47.6) and Neil Yockey (27:51.2) finished the 5 mile race and brought the men into 19th place.
The men and women will compete next at the Bradley Classic in Peroria, Ill. held on October 17th at 3:00 p.m.
