Racers Take Second at Withrow Open

Match Overview
The third-ranked Murray State rifle team finished second out of seven teams at this past weekend's Withrow Open at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky. Fourth-ranked Kentucky won the event with a 4696, while the Racers followed with a 4685. Jacksonville State was third in the annual event, while Memphis was fourth and UT Martin was fifth. North Georgia came in sixth on the weekend, while UAB rounded out the field in seventh.
Smallbore
The Racers shot a 2329 as a team and were led by Ben Estes and Ivan Roe with a 584, which tied Roe's season best score in the event. MacKenzie Martin followed at 582, while Barbara Schläpfer was the final counter at 579. Outside the counters, Shelby Huber posted a career-best 582, while Alathea Sellars shot a 579.
Air Rifle
Roe and Martin led Murray State in air rifle with a 590, while Schläpfer followed at 589 and Sellars posted at 587 for a team score of 2356. Other Racers with solid air rifle scores were Robert Broadstreet and Shelby Huber at 589 and Ben Estes at 584.
Aggregate
Roe posted the top combined score of the match for the Racers with an 1174, while Martin was just two points behind 1172. Shelby Huber was third for Murray State in the match with a career-high 1171, while Estes and Schläpfer each shot an 1168.
