Racers Lead OVC Championships After Day 1

The Murray State rifle team shot a 2340 in smallbore Saturday to take a commanding lead at the 2018 OVC Rifle Championship at Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky. Saturday's smallbore win marks the 14th league title for MSU in the event and third in a row.
The Racers score on the day was just two off of their season-high, which they shot last weekend against Morehead State. MacKenzie Martin posted a match-high 589 to lead the Racers to victory, while Ivan Roe and Ben Estes followed at 585 and 584, respectively. Barbara Schläpfer rounded out the counters for MSU at 582, while Alathea Sellars also shot for the Racers and fired a 578.
Jacksonville State finished the day in second, 41 points behind Murray State at 2299, while Morehead State was only three points behind at 2296. UT Martin rounded out the four-team field on the day at 2281.
The 2018 OVC Rifle Championships will conclude Sunday with the air rifle portion of the event. Relays will take place and 9:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., with the awards ceremony to follow at approximately 2:00 p.m. The 2018 OVC Rifle Championships award ceremony will be broadcast live on OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
