Murray State men's cross country placed 30th overall at the Bradley Pink Classic, Friday.
Jorge Ruiz broke Murray State's long-standing 8,000 meter record with a time of 24:27.3. The previous record has been standing for 40 years and was made by Gary Ribbons at the Washington Invite in 1982. Ruiz placed 127th in the firs 2 kilometer split of the race and moved up to 65th in the 5 kilometer before finishing 58th overall.Â
Second for the Racers was Vicente Correia who posted a top-three all-time performance with a time of 25:14.0. Correia placed 137 overall and was holding an average of 3:10 per kilometer.
Third for the Racers is Joey Santoro who finished with a time of 25:57.1. Fourth in the squad is Jarod Willis who finished the race with a time of 26:20.5 and Benjamin Hall completed the Racer top-5 with a time of 26:23.2.
"Obviously super proud of Jorge for breaking a school record that has stood for a very long time," said cross country coach, Jordan Johnston. "The rest of the team fed off his performance and we had three guys under 26 which is a great accomplishment moving into the conference meet. We are very proud of Nathan being so close to his personal record after coming off a very serious injury in the offseason."
This Racers will now gear up for the Missouri Valley Conference which will be held in Terre Hauge, Ind., Oct. 28.
