Racers Drop Two On Iowa Swing - Fall to UNI

The Racers come home Wednesday to host the Illinois State Redbirds
The Murray State Racers dropped an 81-76 defeat to the Northern Iowa Panthers at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls on Saturday.
After suffering their first two losses this season in the Missouri Valley Conference, the Racers still have a share of first place at 8-2. The Racers are 16-5. The Racers get back to Murray to host the Illinois State Redbirds on Wednesday at the CFSB Center.
Romon Doman scored a career-high 29 points the lead the Racers, while Fred King added his sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Layne Taylor scored 13 points for MSU.
Trailing by 12 points with 4:45 left in the first half, the Racers put together a run to grab the lead at 38-37 behind Domon's 20 first half points.
The Racers led 38-37 at the halftime break.
JJ Traynor made a dunk at the 14:50 mark to give the Racers their largest lead of the day at 50-46. UNI tied it at the 12:38 mark and the Racers were never able to take the lead the rest of the day.

Game Notes
- The last true freshman from Murray State to score 29 points in a game was MSU Hall of Famer, Cameron Payne, who did so at Belmont in 2014. (Feb. 6, 2014).
- In 2019, Tevin Brown was a redshirt freshman for the Racers when he did something extraordinary on Jan. 10, 2019.
- Brown tied the MSU record for made 3-pointers in a game with nine at UT Martin and finished the game with 31 points.
- This was also the same game in which Ja Morant jumped over a UTM player for what is now a very famous play in Murray State history.
- Doman's 20 first half points made him the first Racer since Rob Perry to do it.
- Perry scored 22 points against Illinois State (Feb. 15, 2023) in the first half in Normal, Ill.
- Domon's score line included 29 points for the season-high for MSU in 21 games on 7-12 shooting (2-4 3PT) and 13-15 from the free throw line.
- Jackson extended his streak of making a 3-pointer to 13 games, a season-best for the Racers, while Layne Taylor pushed his streak to eight games.
- Fred King had 16 points and 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.
- The Racers had 14 offensive rebounds today, which moves their string of 10 or more to five-straight games.
- The Racers were 14-0 this season when leading at halftime, and today was their first loss after leading UNI 38-37.
- When the Racers host the Redbirds Wednesday, they'll be trying to extend their 12-game home winning streak at the CFSB Center
