Racers Historic MVC Round Falls Just Short in Sudden Death Playoff

Murray State men's golf put together the best single round in MVC Championship history, but fell just short to Illinois State

Murray State men's golf had one of the most historic days in Missouri Valley Conference Championship history on Tuesday, putting together the lowest single-round score and had the biggest comeback to force a playoff in conference history. The Racers shot 12-under par as a team in the final round to mount a comeback for the ages against Illinois State at Annbriar Golf Club in Waterloo, Illinois.

After fighting back from 11 strokes behind the Redbirds, MSU fell by one shot on the second team playoff hole. Across the three rounds, MSU fired a 282+285+271=838 to take home MVC Runners Up for the second consecutive year.

Sophomore Trey Wall led the Racers with a fourth place finish on the week, followed by junior Lennon Albans in sixth position. Rocco Zakutney and Sam Guest tied for 12th place while Brock Montgomery rounded out the MSU lineup in 16th place.

Wall was named All-MVC for the season, marking a second consecutive All-Conference campaign. It marked only the second team playoff in MVC Men's Golf Championship history, the first since 1971.
