Coach Stephens starts his first season as the Racers' associate head coach ahead of the 2026–27 season. Stephens arrives in Murray bringing a plethora of player development experience and a championship pedigree, having previously served on staffs at Purdue (2023–26), Toledo (2019–23), and Xavier (2017–19).
Most recently at Purdue, Stephens served as the recruiting coordinator while assisting with player development, opponent scouting, and academic support. During his time in West Lafayette, he helped land Big Ten Freshman of the Year Mary Ashley Stevenson in his first season and mentored post player Caitlyn Harper to an All-Big Ten honorable mention campaign in 2023–24. Prior to Purdue, Stephens spent four standout seasons at Toledo, where the Rockets compiled an 84–40 record, secured two MAC Regular Season Championships, captured a MAC Tournament title, and made a pair of postseason appearances. His tenure in Toledo was highlighted by back-to-back 29-win seasons, culminating in a 2023 NCAA Tournament victory over fifth-seeded Iowa State.
Stephens launched his collegiate coaching career at Xavier, spending three seasons overseeing recruiting, video operations, and team camps. Before transitioning to the college ranks, he served as the varsity head coach at Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School in Indianapolis from 2012–16, posting a 38–9 record over his final two seasons and capturing back-to-back conference titles. Additionally, he served as an assistant club director for the Adidas Indiana Elite (2002–05) and Nike Lady Gym Rats (2005–16) AAU programs. Throughout his prep and grassroots tenure, Stephens mentored 62 future collegiate athletes, including 41 NCAA Division I players, while also contributing as a national scout for ESPN’s hoopgurlz.com and a freelance writer for Indiana Basketball Magazine and PrepHoop Stars.
A versatile athlete in his own right, the Louisville, Kentucky native was a two-year letterwinner on the men's basketball team at Morehead State (2000–01) and a four-year letterwinner on the football field (1998–2002), where he led the country as a senior with 7.8 yards per carry. After earning his bachelor's degree in communication from Morehead State in 2002, he went on to become an eight-time semi-pro football all-star for the Indiana Tornados (NAFL) and South Central Broncos (IFL).
Stephens and his wife, Cambrelle, have three children: sons Maddux and McKel, and daughter McKinley.
