Nick Phillips joined Murray State as the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications & Brand Management at Murray State in July 2026. He serves as the primary communications contact for Racer Men’s Basketball.
Prior to joining the Racers, Phillips served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications at Wright State from 2019-2026, overseeing media relations efforts for 14 NCAA tournament teams. He directly managed the communications efforts for men’s basketball, volleyball, golf, bowling, cross country and track & field for Wright State. At Wright State, he spearheaded media efforts for several Wright State historical NCAA firsts, including the department’s first NCAA at-large bid (Volleyball, 2019) and the first NCAA wins in program history for Volleyball (2020 NCAA), Women’s Basketball (2021 NCAA) and Men’s Basketball (2022 NCAA). He served as the main communications contact for 5 NCAA Volleyball Championship appearances, 3 NCAA Baseball Championship appearances and 3 NCAA Basketball Championship appearances (2 men’s basketball, 1 women’s basketball) and also was the media host contact for over a dozen Horizon League tournaments hosted by Wright State across various sports.
Phillips spent nearly two years at the American Athletic Conference as the Assistant Director of Digital Communications and Social Media, where he was responsible for daily operation of The American’s website and expansive social media presence, overseeing and coordinating regular season, offseason and championship social media plans for each sport.
Phillips has also run NCAA Division I communications offices at University of Louisiana-Monroe (Director of Athletic Media Relations) and UNC Asheville (Director of Athletic Media Communications), serving as the football and baseball contact at ULM while working with 12 of UNC Asheville’s 16 total programs during the course of his tenure in the North Carolina mountains. He began his career at LSU Eunice as the school’s first Sports Information Director, where he built the office from scratch and was responsible for two national championship teams (softball, 2013 and 2014) and a national runner-up program (baseball, 2013).
An active member of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), Phillips has served on the Mentorship Committee since 2020 and has presented three times at the annual convention: ‘Working with Small Staffs’ in 2021, ‘Creating One Voice on Social Media’ in 2019 and ‘It’s More Than a #Hashtag’ in 2018.
A native of Rocky Mount, N.C., Phillips earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications from UNC Pembroke in 2012. He resides in Murray with his wife, Megan, daughter, Penelope, and dogs Bullet, Bailey and Jude.
