The 2020-21 school year was Eddie Hunt's final of 20 seasons as the coach of the Murray State golf program as the second coach in the history of the program.
He took over the MSU program for the 2001-02 season and led it for 20 seasons until he retired at the OVC Tournament in the spring of 2021.
Replaced legendary coach Buddy Hewitt who had coached the Racers for 41 seasons from 1961-2001
Hunt won his only Ohio Valley Conference title in 2010. It was the Racers' first since 1991 and fourth in program history.
Was honored by his coaching peers twice as the OVC Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2010.
Hunt has attracted exceptional talent to the Murray State program over the years producing 25 All-OVC selections.
Hunt has also had four OVC Golfer of the Year winners and those occurred in consecutive years. Nick Newcomb (2010), Cameron Carrico (2011) and Patrick Newcomb (2012 and 2013).
In 2007, the Racer Golf program was named to the Golf Digest Top-50 College Golf Programs with MSU being ranked 49th.
An annual MSU Golf homecoming tournament was started by Coach Hunt in 2009 and was held every September. Many former Racers and supporters of the program make it a priority to come back to play every fall.
In 2020, Coach Hunt saw the Newcomb brothers inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Personal

Spent most of his professional career in the business sector as a co-owner of Dennison-Hunt Sporting Goods in Murray from 1974-2001.
Earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Murray State in 1966.
Served in the United States Army from 1966-68 as an officer.
Served one tour in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.
Following military service, Hunt worked in the MSU Student Affairs office and earned his master’s in education in 1969 and then earned a specialist in college teaching degree (SCT) in 1971.
Born and raised in Paducah, Ky.
Hunt is married to the former Lanette Underwood of Murray.
The couple has two sons, Jason and Jeremy, and two grandchildren.
