Murray State's women's tennis team picked up a dual match win and competed in the Sun Devil Invitational during a recent trip to Tempe, Ariz. The Racers beat Grand Canyon University, 9-0, in Phoenix on Wednesday and then faced opponents from Kansas University and DePaul University during a tournament in Tempe on Thursday through Saturday.
The Racers lost just one doubles game and three singles games on their way to a win over NCAA Division II Grand Canyon University. Anna and Rachael Lask earned an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, as did Lynsey Bochenek and Angela McGahee at No. 3 doubles.
Four Murray State players posted straight set, 6-0 and 6-0, victories. Rachael Lask, McGahee, Bochenek and Lyndsay Ottosen shutout their opponents. Anna Lask lost just one game on her way to a 6-0 and 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Adriana Alvarez picked up a 6-2 and 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
In the A Doubles draw of the Sun Devil Invitational, Anna and Rachael Lask gave Kansas' Elizaveta Avdeeva and Edina Horvath a good match but the MSU team fell 8-5. The Lasks were also beaten 8-4 by DePaul's top team of Dunja Antunovic and Anja Mihaldinec.
In the B Doubles draw, Ottosen and Casady Pruitt defeated a doubles team of MSU's Alvarez and DePaul's Clare Chmiel by a score of 8-2.
In singles, DePaul's Antunovic took out Anna Lask, 6-4 and 6-2, in the Cactus Flight. Rachael Lask fell to Kansas' Avdeeva, 6-3 and 6-4, in the Sun Devil Flight.
Freshman McGahee fell to Horvath, 6-4 and 6-3, in the Mesa Flight.
The Racers will face Tennessee-Chattanooga and Tennessee State on Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn. The match against UTC is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., and will be played at Belmont University.
The Ohio Valley Conference match against TSU will start at 3:30 p.m., and will be played at TSU.
