Murray State's women's tennis team beat Tennessee Tech University, 6-1, today at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts on the MSU campus. The Racers (13-5, 8-1 OVC) extended their winning streak to 10 straight matches with the win over the Golden Eagles (4-18, 4-6 OVC).
Tennessee Tech played the match with just four players.
Murray State needed to win just one of the two doubles matches to earn the doubles point, but the Racers won both. Anna Lask and Rachael Lask beat Amy Anstey and Marina Ruiz, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. Lyndsay Ottosen and Casady Pruitt dispatched Margot Carter and Evgenia Yartseva, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.
With the doubles point in hand and with Tennessee Tech forced to default the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches Murray State had a 3-0 lead as singles play began.
Angela McGahee clinched the match for the Racers with a 6-2 and 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.
Pruitt and Anna Lask earned singles victories at No. 3 and No. 1 respectively. Pruitt came back after losing the first set 6-3 to beat Ruiz in the second set 6-0 and 10-7 in the third set tiebreaker.
TTU earned its only point when Anstey edged Rachael Lask 4-6, 6-3 and 10-7 at No. 2 singles.
The Racers will face Eastern Illinois University on Sunday at 2 p.m., in Charleston, Ill. That match was originally scheduled for Saturday but has been moved due to a poor weather forecast.
