Murray State's women's tennis ended its regular season with a 5-2 win over Eastern Illinois University today in Charleston, Ill. The Racers extended their winning streak to 11 straight matches and improved to 14-5 on the season and 9-1 against OVC teams. EIU drops to 12-8 overall and 7-2 in the OVC.
Murray State won the first doubles match. Lynsey Bochenek and Angela McGahee downed Stephanie Harmazy and Sam Lininger, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.
Eastern Illinois evened it up when Hayley Homburg and Natalie Martin edged Anna Lask and Rachael Lask, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.
The Racers grabbed the doubles point with Lyndsay Ottosen and Casady Pruitt's 8-6 victory over Madina Mambetova and Sandra Sasidharan at No. 2 doubles.
MSU secured the match by winning four of the six singles matches.
Anna Lask knocked off Sasidharan in straight sets at No. 1 singles, 6-3 and 6-2. Pruitt beat Mambetova, 6-1 and 6-4, at No. 3 singles. McGahee defeated Harmazy, 6-0 and 6-3, at No. 4 singles.
At No. 6 singles, Ottosen lost just one game on her way to a 6-1 and 6-0 victory over Carrie Larson. The win was the eighth straight singles victory for the freshman.
Eastern Illinois earned its points with singles wins by Martin and Homburg. Martin downed Rachael Lask, 6-2 and 7-5, at No. 2 singles. Homburg took care of Bochenek, 6-3 and 6-3, at No. 5 singles.
The Racers will have concluded their regular season schedule. Murray State will begin its quest for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship on Friday in Nashville, Tenn.
