
Women?s Tennis Falls at Belmont in Season Opener

The Murray State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Belmont in its 2009 season opener Friday at the Wildwood Tennis Center in Brentwood, Tenn.
The Racers (0-1) earned the doubles point as the duo of Lyndsay Ottosen and Adriana Alvarez posted an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 spot. After dropping the doubles match at No. 3 doubles, MSU's Angela McGahee and Anne Pennington found themselves in a battle with Whitney Warren and Tatiana Pozo. The match was knotted at 8-8 and went to a tiebreaker where the Racers pulled out the 8-6 victory to secure the doubles point.
In singles action, freshman Cassidy Cunitz earned a tough 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Pozo at No. 2. Sophomore Alexis Webb continued her singles success as she handed Lindsay Bennett a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 4.
The Racers return to the court on Feb. 13 when they travel to take on Evansville. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
