
Second Quarter Miscues Help Propel Bears to Victory Over Racers

Missouri State scored a pair of defensive touchdowns just 3:19 apart in the second quarter to break open a close game and propel the Bears to a 35-10 victory over Murray State Saturday afternoon at Plaster Field.
The Racers (1-2) got on the board on their opening possession as they put together a 10-play drive that culminated in a Kienan Cullen 22-yard field goal. MUR got down into the red zone after Jeff Ehrhardt hit Derrick Townsel on a 51-yard strike on third-and-12.
The Bears (2-1) responded with a 10-play drive of their own that ended with a Cody Kirby eight-yard pass to Cardarrius Dotson.
MOST added to its lead on its next drive as a personal foul face mask penalty on the Racers moved the ball into Racer territory where Kirby found Jermaine Saffold on a corner route for a 26-yard scoring strike.
The Racers dug themselves a bigger first-half hole as Skylar Smith scooped up a ball on a lateral and raced 55 yards for the touchdown.
MUR dodged a bullet late in the second half as Harry McCall intercepted a pass on the Racer three-yard line, but the Bear defense picked up the slack of its offense as Waylan Richardet fell on the ball in the endzone after Travis Ribbing knocked the ball out of the hands of Ehrhardt.
The Bears widened the lead in the third as Kirby found Wes Miller for a 27-yard touchdown.

The Racers return to action Sept. 26 as they open Ohio Valley Conference action against Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Stewart Stadium.
