Box Score
Murray State goalkeeper Yi Du picked up her second shutout of the season, coming up big in the final minutes against South Florida as the Racers held off the Bulls for a 0-0 draw in the final match of the Dafeldecker Classic in Tampa, Fla.
Tested for much of the game, Du went to her left, stopping a penalty kick off the foot of Noelle Pineiro with six seconds remaining in the second and final overtime session to preserve the tie for MSU. She ended the match with nine saves.
South Florida (2-2-2) missed by inches in almost scoring twice earlier in the match, hitting off the crossbar near the end of the first half and hitting the post following a corner kick a few minutes into the first overtime period.
Murray State (1-4-1) came out looking to score after the halftime break, taking seven shots in the second 45 minute period, three of them coming on goal. Julie Mooney and Bronagh Kerins led the Racers with two shots each in the game, and Mooney, Sophie Hargreaves and Maja Nordahl each had one shot on goal.
"We responded in excellent fashion today against a top team," head coach Beth Acreman said. "We stuck to our game plan and executed better today than we have all season so far. I couldn't be more proud of our effort and pride this game to get this result for Murray State."
MSU was able to keep South Florida off the scoreboard after suffering a 4-2 defeat at home last season.
The Bulls totaled 24 shots over the 110 minutes.
The Racers return home next week, hosting Indiana State at 3 p.m. Sept. 9 before traveling to Jonesboro, Ark. for a 1 p.m. Sunday match at Arkansas State.
