Murray State cross-country teams each competed at the Eastern Illinois Invitational Friday, picking up dual meet wins in the process. Abbie Oliver led the way for the women's team, while Cole Cisernos once again completed the 8K course in the fastest time for the men.
The women's team finished in third place overall among the 12 teams and six OVC schools. Their score of 92 put them behind first place Southern Illinois (22) and second place Eastern Illinois (57). The men finished in fifth place overall scoring 147. Host Eastern Illinois won the men's side with 22 points.
Oliver finished in 10th place overall in the field of 138 runners. Her time of 18:39.94 was the fastest by a Racer this year. Brittany Bohn finished two spots behind Oliver, crossing the line in 18:46.01.
Alicyn Hester, Carolyne Tanui and Leah Krause rounded out the scoring for MSU. Each of the girls finished in the top 30, placing 25th, 26th and 28th respectively.
Running in his first 8K of the season, Cole Cisneros paced the Racers, finishing in 20th place with a time of 26:43.92. Freshmen Mitch Harris (40th) and Neil Yockey (41st) followed Cisneros finishing three seconds apart. Brian Coleman (52nd) and Evan Staviski (56th) completed the scoring for MSU.
The women's team defeated Evansville (23-42) and SIU Edwardsville (18-42) in dual meet competition. The Racers took first, second, third, fifth and sixth place against SIU Edwardsville.
While the men did not pick up any dual meet wins, they remained competitive throughout with their top three scorers finishing in the top 50 in the 123-runner field. They lost to Evansville by a single point, 28-27.
Both teams are off next week, but will be back in action September 21 for the Saluki Invitational, hosted by Southern Illinois.Â
