Murray State's track team headed to Columbus, Ohio where they competed in the annual Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by The Ohio State University.
Junior Brittany Bohn had a stand out weekend for the Racers competing in the 800m 1500m. Bohn set a pair of personal-bests and cracked MSU's all-time lists in both events. On Friday she finished in 23rd place out of 54 runners with a PR 4:34.67 in the 1500m run. That time put her at No. 3 all time at MSU. She then turned around and ran another PR in the 800m, winning her heat in 2:14.87, and landing eighth among MSU's all-time greats.
Emma Gilmore also saw her name on the MSU record-book. Gilmore climbed two spots to No. 4 all-time in the 1500m run. Gilmore finished the race in 4:38.57 in 31st place. She also competed in the 800m run placing 15th in the field of 35 in 2:16.05
Sydney Potts and Tonia Pratt also performed well for MSU in the field events. Pratt finished with a pair of eighth place finishes in the shot put and hammer throw. She tossed the weights 14.36m (47' 1") and 56.14m (184' 2"), respectively. Her mark in the hammer throw is just .09 meters off of her personal-best and school record throw.
Potts also had a top-ten finish in the javelin throw. Potts' throw of 38.63m (126' 9") put in her seventh place in the field of 27.
The Racers have a pair of meets coming up this week. First they will host the Battle of the Cumberland meet between Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech and MSU. That meet will be held at Marshall Gage Track in Murray, Ky. Tuesday, April 22. They will then travel to De Moines, Iowa for the annual and prestigious Drake Relays, April 24-26.
