Racer Golf Finishes Play At FAU Event

Murray State men's golfer Jordan Smith turned in a 26th place finish in a field of 104 players over the weekend at the FAU Slomin Autism Championship in Lake Worth, Florida.
Smith, a senior from Murray, carded scores of 70-79-71=220 to place 26th and become one of only eight players in the field to have two or more sub-par rounds.
The Racers placed 16th in the field of 20 teams with scores of 296-308-296=900. MSU placed ahead of Rhode Island (902), Bethune-Cookman (907) and Morehead State (915). The Racers trailed 15th place Xavier at 894.
Other Murray scores included: Duncan McCormick in 51st place with rounds of 77-75-73=225 and Preston French with rounds of 77-78-74=229 for a spot in 76th place. Brock Simmons placed 79th after scores of 72-76-82=230 and Jared Gosser finished 108th with scores of 80-85-78=243.
Matthew Zakutney played the event for MSU as an individual, He carded scores of 88-80-73=241 and placed 106th.
Ryan Stowash was the medalist at 208 to lead Central Florida to the title with a score of 863. Connecticut (876), DePaul (877), Florida Gulf Coast (880), Hartford and Jacksonville State (882) rounded out the top-6.
The Racers have one more event before playing the OVC Championship. MSU competes at the Big Blue Intercollegiate (April 13-14) at Hermitage Golf Course in Nashville. The OVC Championship is in Muscle Shoals, Alabama at The Shoals April 24 through 26.
