The Murray State women will be making their first trip to the OVC Tournament since 2013 Wednesday as the Racers face top-seeded UT Martin at Municipal Auditorium. This will be the third matchup this season between the two teams. The Skyhawks won both of the previous meetings this year, 92-62 on Jan. 30 in Martin and 70-49 in Saturday's regular season finale at the CFSB Center.
This will be MSU's sixth trip the conference tournament under Head Coach Rob Cross and 21st appearance in program history. The Racers are 12-19 all-time in the OVC Tournament, winning the title in 2008.
The top-seeded Skyhawks enter the tournament tops in the league in scoring, averaging 78 points per game. UT Martin is also second in the league in scoring defense, allowing 60.8 points per contest and its 17.1 scoring margin is the best in the OVC by over five points per game. The Skyhawks lead the league in field goal percentage (45.8 percent), 3-point percentage (40 percent) and free throw shooting (80.8 percent), 3-pointers made per game (11.3), steals (10.9) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4).
Haley Howard leads UTM in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game while Jessy Ward is second on the team in scoring at 13.6 per and in 3-point percentage, shooting 42.7 percent from beyond the arc. Ward also leads the conference with 3.4 made 3-pointers a game.
The Racers are 1-1 all-time at the OVC Tournament against the Skyhawks, losing their last meeting in 2012 in the semifinals. MSU won in 2007 in overtime, also in the semifinals.
