Bauer Delivers Walkoff on Senior Day
5/21/2016 4:38:00 PM | Baseball
Adam Bauer ripped a two-out, ninth inning double into the right center field gap to score Cody Gilbert and give Murray State a walkoff, 5-4 Senior Day victory Saturday afternoon at Reagan Field. The Racers finish the season 27-29 and 15-15 in the OVC.
Bauer finished the day going 2-for-4 at the dish with a run scored. He also tripled to right center earlier in the game, his ninth of the year, putting him back in sole possession of the national lead for the most triples on the season.
Kipp Moore also went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double in the win while Ramsey Scott was 2-of-3 at the plate. Caleb Hicks was 1-for-4, but delivered a big two-RBI single to left field in the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4. Reed Thompson led off the ninth with a pinch hit single to left field, before being lifted for Gilbert to run.
Doubles in the first and second from Scott and Nick Moore, respectively gave the Racers an early 2-0 lead. However, a three-run third from the Eagles (31-25, 17-13 OVC) would put them out front for the first time and they would lengthen the lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth before Hicks' hit in the bottom half of the inning tied the game.
Tyler Anderson earned the win on the day as he came on in relief in the ninth inning and was lights out. He entered the game with runners on first and second with nobody out and after a sac bunt from Morehead, was able to end the inning with back-to-back strikeouts to preserve the tie. Brad Boegel took the no decision and was stellar in his final start for the Racers. Boegel pitched a season-high eight innings and allowed four runs on six hits while striking-out a season-best eight batters.
Prior to the game, seven seniors were honored for Senior Day. Sheldon Baxter, Boegel, Andrew Bramley, Tyler Dixon, Chad Gendron, Nick Moore and Cody Maerz all appeared in their final games at MSU.
The Racers' 27 wins are the most in a single season since 2010 and the 15 conference victories are the most in program history.
