Racers In Fourth After First Day at NCAAs

The Murray State rifle team finished the smallbore portion of the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championship with a 2324, which placed them in fourth, Friday at the McAlister Field House on the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
Kentucky took home the smallbore national title on the day by firing a 2345. Five-time defending national champion West Virginia shot a 2327 to finish second to lead Murray State by just three, while TCU finished third at 2326.
MacKenzie Martin led Murray State on day one with 585, which qualified her for the individual final, where she finished seventh. Barbara Schläpfer followed Martin at 582, while Ivan Roe was third for Murray State at 578. Ben Estes and Robert Broadstreet rounded out MSU's day by shooting a 578 and a 575, respectively.
On Saturday, the Racers will shoot the air rifle portion of the championship which will determine the 2018 national champion.
