The Murray State women's tennis team won in dominating fashion, sweeping the Cougars of SIU Edwardsville at the  McCracken Indoor Courts in Paducah, Ky., en route to their ninth consecutive win.
"We played really good; it's tricky when you go from outdoor courts to indoor courts, there are different conditions and surfaces that cause it to be much faster. This team has been showing a lot of maturity in regard to the changing conditions this year," said head coach Jorge Caetano after the win. "Doubles looked good again today, it was important to start with a good doubles point. Singles took the momentum and looked strong and ready."
The Racer move to 13-6 overall and 7-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference. SIUE drops to 0-18 overall and 0-7 in the OVC. The last time Murray State won 13 or more games in a season was during the 2014-15 campaign.
"I told the girls that girls that they needed to play good tennis, regardless of the record of our opponent. We did a good job of that, especially in the top three matches when SIUE would try to come back, we put our foot down and fought hard."
Much like against EIU, Murray State wasted no time getting the first point, as they swept doubles play 3-0. Claire Chang and Jeanne Masson won 6-3, Amina Hadzic and Anja Loncarevic won 6-1 while Sara Bjork and Stasya Sharapova won 6-1 to give Murray State an early 1-0 lead.
Hadzic started singles play off with a quick two-set victory, winning 6-0 in both sets. Hadzic extends her winning streak to 14 straight games and is 18-5 overall.
Sharapova was next to secure a victory with a two-set win, winning 6-2 in each set. Sharapova picked up her 11th win of the year.
Clinching the win for the blue and gold, Chang battled to a two-set win, winning 6-4 and 6-0. Chang picked up her 19th win of the year and is 7-2 in the last 10 matches the Racers have played.
Aarja Chakraborty secured her ninth win of the year in a hard-fought two-set bought, winning 6-4 in each set. Winning her last four, Chakraborty won her sixth OVC game this season.
Winning her 10th match of the year, Masson won in two sets, winning 6-0 in both sets.
Sara Loncarevic closed things out with a two-set win, winning 6-0 in both sets. Loncarevic picked up her 11th win of the season and has won three in a row.
"What I like about this week coming up is that we can focus on each team one at a time. It's always tough when you play your rival, especially when we've split the last two year. It's going to come down to who can be the tougher team, who can be tougher and who can play better in the big moments,."
Murray State travels to Clarkesville, Tenn., to take on the Governors of Austin Peay in the Battle of the Border on Tuesday, April 10.
