The Games
The Murray State women's basketball team closes out a four-game road trip Thursday and Saturday at UT Martin and Southeast Missouri. On Thursday, the Racers will look to snap a five-game skid at the Elam Center, while Saturday they will aim to continue a three-game overall win-streak against the Redhawks.
Last Time Out
The Murray State Racers opened their four-game road trip with a pair of losses at Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech last week. Against the Gamecocks, the Racers could never find a rhythm and fell for the first time this season when hold opponents to less the 40-percent shooting from the floor. Macey Turley led MSU with 15 points, while Cekeya Mack came off the bench to add 14. In Cookeville, the Racers got off to a hot start and led at halftime, but could not sustain the pace and fell for the first time the season when leading after two quarters. Alexis Burpo notched the first double-double of her career with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Turley once again led the Racers in points with 28.
The UT Martin Series
Murray State and UT Martin have met 85 times previous to Thursday with the Skyhawks holding a 13-game lead in the all-time series, 49-36. With a win two week ago in Murray, the Skyhawks have now won seven of the last eight meetings in the series. In Martin, the Racers have won 14 of 41 meetings and have topped the Skyhawks just once since 2009.
Scouting The Skyhawks
The Skyhawks enter Thursday's game with the Racers at 8-7 on the season and are undefeated in league play at 4-0. The Redhawks are currently 2-2 in the OVC and 10-5 overall after splitting with Belmont and Tennessee State last week. The Redhawks currently have three players averaging double-digit points per game with Carrie Shephard leading the way at 16.8 and Tesia Thompson and Taelour Pruitt following at 16.5 and 10.0 points per game for SEMO. Laci Hawthorne had an outstanding road trip last week with her rebounding performance. She pulled down 10 rebounds at Jacksonville State and followed it up Saturday with a career-high 13 at Tennessee Tech.
Buckets By The Buckets
Macey Turley scored 15 points at Jacksonville State and tied her season-high of 28 at Tennessee Tech. Her double-digit performances marked the 12th and 13th time this season that she has accomplished the feat, failing only to score 10-points or more twice in 15 games.
