Connor Coombs paced the Murray State men's golf team with a 20^th place finish in the first event of the 2020 spring season Monday at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Desert Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona.

Coombs, a junior from Central City, Kentucky, posted a final round 69 and finished with a score of 216 which was good for a 20^th place finish in the field of 112 competitors. His score line was 74-73-69=216 as he climbed 25 spots in the standings in the final round.

Other Murray State scores and finishes included Austin Knight in 79^th place on scores of 77-75-72=224, while Dalton Bagwell placed 90^th on scores of 76-76-75=227. Avery Edwards placed 97^th after rounds of 78-75-75=228 and James Boone had a score line of 76-78-77=231 for a spot in 102^nd place.

The Racers played better as the event progressed and placed 17^th on scores of 303-299-291=893, ahead of Hartford (900) and SIUE (908). MSU finished behind Missouri State (877), Xavier (886) and DePaul (891). Drake was the team winner (849), as Eastern Michigan (850), Loyola Maryland (851), Loyola Marymount (854) and Delaware (855) made up the top five.

The medalist title went to Delaware's Roberto Nieves on scores of 67-71-67=205.

The Palm Desert played to a par-72 and a length of 7,015 yards.

The next event (March 2-3) finds the Racers traveling to Diamondhead, Mississippi to compete at the Gulf Coast Collegiate, an event hosted by Nichols State at Diamondhead Country Club.
