The Murray State women's track & field team opened its 2021 outdoor track & field season at the Bill Cornell Invite in Carbondale, Illinois. Four athletes rank in the Top 20 in the East Region from their performances over the weekend.
"For a Saturday in March in Illinois you couldn't ask for a much better day to open up our outdoor season. Overall there were some ups and downs, but the energy that the team brought today was amazing and it led to six MSU Top Ten performances. It was exciting to finally see some of the outdoor events like the steeple, jav, disc and 400 hurdles. We always talk about competing at a high level no matter the situation and the kids really did that this weekend. This was a good starting point to our season and we look forward to hosting next week with a chance to compete in front of friends and family.," said Head Coach Adam Kiesler.
After winning her fourth straight high jump, Meghan Fletcher ranks fifth with a mark of 1.73m, a new PR.
Kenia Seals set a new personal-best in the 100m, winning the event with a time of 11.79. She ranks 20th in the East Region.
In the steeplechase, Emma Creviston and Dani Wright finished one-two in the steeplechase event. Creviston ran an 11.34.19, good for 10th in the East Region and Wright ran a 11:45.69, placing her 17th in the East Region.
The Racers host their annual Margaret Simmons Invite next weekend (Mar. 26-27) on the Marshall Gage Track inside Stewart Stadium with throwing events taking place at Hamilton Field.
