The Game
The Murray State women's basketball team will make the short trip to Martin, Tennessee Wednesday for a mid-week, non-conference clash with UT Martin at 6 p.m. at the Elam Center.
Series At A Glance
Wednesday will be the 92nd all-time meeting between the Racers and the Skyhawks, with UT Martin leading the all-time series, 53-38. For the first time since 2009-10, the Racers won back-to-back games in the series last season. The win at the Elam Center was also just the second win for Murray State in almost 15 years.
Scouting The Skyhawks
The Skyhawks will enter Saturday at 2-4 after going 1-2 last week at the Hostilo Community Classic in Savannah, Georgia.
Three Skyhawks currently average 10.0 or more points per game this season with Kenley McCarn leading the way at 13.9 points per game, followed by Sharnecce Currie-Jelks at 12.0 and Paige Pipkin at 10.3. Currie-Jelks leads UT Martin in rebounding at 6.8 boards per game with Anaya Brown following at 4.8
UT Martin currently averages 67.5 points per game on 43.3-percent shooting with 31.5 rebounds per game, Meanwhile, the Skyhawks' opponents are averaging 65.7 points per game on 39.8-percent shooting with 37.5 rebounds per game.
A Win Would...
A win Wednesday would give the Racers three consecutive wins this season and also three consecutive wins over the Skyhawks.
Crashing The Boards
Jaidah Black pulled down a career-best 18 rebounds Saturday at Alabama A&M. It was the best rebounding performance by a Racer since Evelyn Adebayo pulled down 20 against Eastern Illinois in 2019.
Clamping Down
The 36 points allowed by the Racers at Alabama A&M marked the first time since they limited Southeast Missouri to 34 in 2011 that MSU has held a Division I opponent under 40 points.
Streak Comes To A Close
Katelyn Young missed her sixth free throw attempt of the day at Alabama A&M to bring an end to her consecutive made free throw streak at 42. Young now has the third (42) and fourth (33) longest such streaks in program history and is the only player in program history to have two separate streaks of 30 or more made free throws.
Grinding Out Wins
Murray State has won each of its last two games despite scoring less than 60 points in each. The wins mark the first time since the 1998-99 season the Racers have won multiple games in a season scoring less than 60 points.
