The Game
The Murray State women's basketball team welcomes Belmont to the CFSB Center Thursday for the final home game of the 2021-22 regular season. Thursday will be Senior Night at The Bank as senior players Raegan Blackburn, Alexis Burpo, Macie Gibson, Lex Mayes, Macey Turley and senior manager Chloe Lovins will be honored prior to the contest.
Series At A Glance
Thursday will be the 22nd all-time meeting between the Racers and Bruins with Belmont holding an 18-3 advantage. The Bruins also lead the all-time series in Murray, 8-2, where they have won each of the last seven meetings.
Scouting The Bruins
The league-leading Bruins enter Thursday's matchup with a record of 20-7 overall and 14-2, having already clinched at least a share of the OVC regular-season championship.
Destinee Wells leads three Bruins in double-digits this season with 15.8, while Madison Bartley and Tuti Jones follow at 11.7. Bartley and Tessa Miller lead Belmont on the boards with 4.8 rebounds per game.
Belmont currently averages 69.4 points per game on 43.0-percent shooting with 35.7 rebounds per game, Meanwhile, the Bruins' opponents are averaging 56.3 points per game on 37.4-percent shooting with 34.6 rebounds per game.
A Win Would...
A win Thursday would keep Murray State's hope for its second-ever regular season championship alive. Along with a win over the Bruins Thursday, the Racers will need a win at Southeast Missouri and a Tennessee State win over Belmont Saturday to clinch a share of the title.
Seventh Heaven
For the seventh time this season, Katelyn Young was named as the OVC Player of the Week Tuesday. Young averaged 26.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists over two wins for the Racers. The award win also allowed Young to pass Ashley N. Hayes for the most POTW awards won in a single season.
Moving On
On Wednesday, it was announced that Katelyn Young had been named as a semifinalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award presented by Her Hoops Stats. Young was the only player from the OVC or MVC to advance to the semifinals of the award process.
Leave No Doubt
Of Murray State's 20 wins this season, 16 of them have come by 10 or more points, while 10 of those 16 wins have been by more than 20 points.
Elite Company
Of the 356 DI institutions that sponsor both men's and women's basketball, only nine have seen both their men's and women's programs win at least 20 games so far this season, of which Murray State is one. The other eight schools to have both basketball teams win at least 20 games so far in 2021-22 are Baylor, Gonzaga, Liberty, Missouri State, North Carolina, Tennessee, Toledo and Towson.
