Kaydee Wooldridge secured a personal-best time for the third consecutive meet this season.
The Murray State women's cross country team ended the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship in 29th place in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Friday.
"We had a little bit of rain during our warm up drills and you could see the team was all smiles," cross country coach Jordan Johnston said. "They were calm and confident so I knew we would have some strong performances."
Freshman Kaydee Wooldridge led the Racers in Friday's race, finishing in 108th out of 243 competitors that completed the event. She crossed the finish line with a time of 21:51.8, notching a new personal best and the third-fastest 6K time in program history.
"Kaydee really put herself out there from the beginning and I give her a lot of credit for not letting the fast splits get to her head," Johnston said.
Junior Ruth Kimutai finished in 144th with a time of 22:32.2, besting her time from last year's regional championship by over 20 seconds.
"Ruth was incredibly responsive during the race," Johnston said. "Even as things got tough, she continued to stay engaged with the field and compete."
Sophomores Jocelyn Host and Allison Wood both were just over a one-second split between each other at the end of the race. Host finished with a time of 23:04.5 and Wood finished at 23:05.6.
Both athletes secured personal bests with their finishes in the regional. Host topped her previous best by just over 10 seconds and Wood beat hers by over 20 seconds.
"Jocelyn and Allison have both steadily shown improvements this season and my hope is that this meet gives them more confidence for the future," Johnston said. "They now know they can attack the first half of the race and still have a strong finish."
Senior Breanna Day rounded out the counting scores for the Racers with a time of 24:00.9, topping her time from the 2022 regional event by over 90 seconds.
"Overall I'm really happy with how the women performed today," Johnston added. "They crushed out team goal that we had set beforehand."Â
