A big seven-run fourth inning propelled Murray State to a victory.
Arkansas State opened the scoring with a leadoff homer to start the game. Murray State followed it up in the bottom half of the first scoring two runs on an RBI single from Riley Hawthorne after Dustin Mercer doubled and Jonathan Hogart reached on a fielding error by the shortstop.
The Red Wolves scored two more in the second on their second homer of the game and an RBI double. The Racers answered back starting with an RBI double by Logan Bland to tie the game at three runs. Drew Vogel then stepped up and laced a two-RBI triple to the center field wall, scoring Bland and Ethan Krizen after Krizen reached base on a hit-by-pitch.
Mercer extended the Racers' lead in the fourth with a two-run shot over the right field wall. Two batters later, Carson Garner capped off a seven-run inning with his own two-run homer for his seventh of the season, giving MSU a 9-3 lead.
After a scoreless fifth inning, Hogart blasted his first home run in a Racers uniform to extend MSU's lead to seven. Murray State's scoring was capped on an RBI groundout by Preston Shelton and an RBI base hit from Vogel.
The Red Wolves attempted to rally with a three-run home run and an RBI double to make it a five-run ball game. Nathan Holler then made a bullpen appearance to force Arkansas State into a bases-loaded groundout with two outs on a full count.
Alex Elsing earned the win out of the bullpen, tossing 2 1/3 innings allowing just one run on five hits and two walks with a strikeout.
Nine different Racers recorded a base hit with three having a multi-hit game.
