Murray State rifle alumnus Ivan Roe became the first Racer olympian since 2004, competing in three events in the Paris 2024 Games
Murray State rifle alumnus Ivan Roe has officially completed Olympic competition at the Paris 2024 games, competing in 10-meter men's air rifle, 10-meter mixed team air rifle, and 50-meter men's three position rifle.
Â
A Manhattan, Montana native, Roe finished 18th alongside Sagen Maddalena in the 10-meter mixed team air rifle competition with a final score of 624.9. Team Air Rifle is a newer event in the Olympics and closely resembles the format used in NCAA Rifle competitions.
Â
In the 10-meter men's air rifle event, Roe finished 34th with a 626.3 final score, finishing just  3.5 points out of the final.
Â
Ivan finished 20th in the 50-meter men's three position rifle competition with a score of 587, just  three points out of the final. Roe's position breakdown was 198 kneeling, 197 prone and 192 in standing.
Â
Roe became the first Murray State Olympian since fellow rifle alumni Morgan Hicks competed in the Athens 2004 games.
Â
"I could not be more proud for Ivan," said Murray State Rifle Coach Alan Lollar. "I know the commitment and hard work he has put in to get there. Our sport has gotten so tight at the top that sometimes it's hard to appreciate the fact that the three and a half points between Ivan and the air rifle final encompasses twenty-eight athletes. It was that close. Ivan is a true champion and one of the best ever at Murray State."
Â
Roe currently serves as a Sargent in the US Army and has been on training full time after receiving a direct appointment to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit after completing Infantry One Station Unit Training at the then-called Fort Benning, Georgia in July 2019 (now called Fort Moore).
