Racers Slug Past Western Illinois On Opening Day

Will Vierling's three-homer day was part of five home runs by Murray State as the program's 86th season gets underway
The Murray State baseball team swept their doubleheader today versus the Western Illinois Leathernecks. The final score of the first game was 10-5 and the final score of the second game was 16-0.

In the first leg of the double header Will Vierling went two for four with two home runs and four RBIs in his Murray State debut. Jonathan Hogart also notched two hits and added a walk and two hit by pitches to reach base in all five trips to the plate in game one. Ethan Lyke worked four innings while not allowing an earned run. Harper McLendon earned the win in relief as the Racers took the season opener.

In game two Vierling, the junior transfer from Louisville, stayed hot for Murray State adding another long ball and two doubles to give him five extra base hits for the day. Dan Tauken and Jackson McCoy added homers for MSU. Another Racer making his Murray State debut, Isaac Silva a junior transfer from Las Cruces, New Mexico. Silva fired five innings of no hit ball with five strikeouts.Â

The Racers return to the field for the 2025 home opener at Johnny Reagan Field on Wednesday against UT Martin.
