The Racers’ 800M speedster gets a last chance to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Nationals on Friday in Fayetteville
Murray State's 800M star, Kayla Bell, heads to the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville Friday for one reason, get into the top-16 nationally and thus qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Â
The Randal Tyson Track Center will be a bee hive of activity all day leading up to the 5:50 p.m. Central Time start of the 800M Run that will have five sections in which the Top-16 make the NCAA Championships.
Â
Bell runs in the fifth and final section.
Â
The senior from Lynville, Illinois, just lowered her Murray State record in the 800M to 2:02.99 last weekend in Nashville at the Music City Challenge. Her record time is tops in the Missouri Valley Conference and No. 17 in NCAA D-I.
Â
Going into the Arkansas Qualifier, positions 13 through 17 are all in the 2:02 range. If Bell could shave close to one more second off her time, she would have a very good chance of advancing to the NCAA Finals (March 14-15) in Virginia Beach, Va.
Â
Bell and the Racers are also driving for the MVC Indoor Championships (March 2-3) in Chicago.
