Former OVC Freshman of the Year comes to Murray State after playing with UT Martin and Indiana
Murray State women's basketball coach Rechelle Turner announced the signing of Sharnecce Currie-Jelks for the 2025-26 season.
Currie-Jelks, a Jackson, Tennessee native, played a season at UT Martin where she earned Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year honors. In her lone season with the Skyhawks, she averaged 15.2 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field. The 6-2 forward ranked inside the top five of the OVC in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots.
Â
Across the last two seasons, Currie-Jelks played in the Big 10 with Indiana, gaining valuable experience practicing and playing with one of the nation's premier programs.
Â
"Sharnecce is an outstanding addition for our program," Turner said. "She will add athleticism and experience to our front court, and she brings a versatile and clever offensive game to our high-octane attack. She has proven that she can score in the post, off the dribble, and with face up jumpers and will be a force on the backboards while being able to really run in transition. Best of all, Sharnecce is a terrific young woman who will fit perfectly in our championship culture. We are very excited to welcome her to the Murray State women's basketball family. "
Â
Prior to her college career, Currie-Jelks prepped at Jackson Southside High School, the same high school that Murray State Hall of Famer Ke'shunan James attended. Murray State signee, Jaidynn Askins attends Southside currently and will join the Racers in the fall.
Â
While with the Hawks, Currie Jelks averaged 12.8 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and two blocks per game. She was voted Team MVP and twice earned all-district and all-region honors while leading Southside to a 56-8 record across two seasons.
