Racers Fall in Extras at Belmont

The Racers remain in second place in the MVC heading into the final week of the regular season
The Murray State Racers failed to get the sweep of their Missouri Valley Conference Series against the Belmont Bruins after a Mother's Day 4-3 10-inning defeat in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Racers (34-13) are 16-8 in the MVC and come home to host the first place Missouri State Bears Thursday through Saturday with the regular season championship on the line at Johnny Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. The Bears also lost today 7-6 at home to Indiana State and have a one-game lead on the Racers.

After falling behind 2-0, the Racers grabbed their first lead in the bottom of the second on RBI hits from Charlie Jury and Jonathan Hogart for a 3-2 lead.

Jacob Hustedde had one of his best outings of the season when he relieved Kane Elmy in the third inning. Hustedde went five innings with just two hits and one run given, but the one run was a home run by Landon Godsey to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning.

- In getting their seventh-straight MVC series win, the Racers are 14-4 since their 2-4 start.
- When the Bruins scored the first run of the game in their first time at bat, it marked their first lead of the weekend since the first inning of the first game on Friday.
- Today was the Racers' fifth extra-inning game of the season and they are now 3-2.
- The Racers have extra inning wins over Western Kentucky (Feb. 24), Lindenwood (March 11) and Southern Illinois (May 4).
- MSU's extra-inning losses were at Ole Miss (march 5) and today's game at Belmont.
- Dustin Mercer is in fourth place in career hits with the Racers now with 230.
- Tyler Lawrence (2014-17) is MSU's all-time leader with 266, Wes Cunningham (2007-10) and Ty Stetson (2011-14) each have 236.
- With two free passes today, Carson Garner has 50 walks in 2025 and becomes just the fifth Racer to get 50 in a single season and first since Grant Wood in 2018.
- The MSU single season walks record was set in 1973 by Jack Perconte at 58.
- Dom Decker pushed his on-base streak to 30 games with a walk today, longest streak of the season for MSU.
