Nationally-renowned technology captures the most comprehensive and accurate ball-tracking data
Murray State Baseball has finished the installation of TrackMan, a data-driven technology that will give the Racers a competitive edge in competition and preparation.
Â
The software, which is utilized by more than 300 collegiate institutions around the country, was funded through the private support of program alumni and other Racer Athletics investors.
Â
"This is a significant milestone for our program," head coach Dan Skirka said. "I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Director of Athletics Nico Yantko and all members of our administration who played a role in making this important investment in our student-athletes. The addition of TrackMan technology will greatly enhance our development in pitching, hitting, and fielding, while also improving our scouting and evaluation processes for opponents, umpires, and every game and practice."
Â
In addition to the widescale usage in the collegiate game, the system is used by all 30 Major League Baseball teams, top amateur organizations, prominent collegiate summer leagues and is embedded in more than 500 stadiums around the world.
Â
"We are constantly looking at ways we can provide a competitive edge for our programs," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "We want to thank our investors who have continued to help our baseball program compete for a championship in the MVC."
Â
TrackMan uses patented Optically Enhanced Radar Tracking (OERT) to record and deliver data from tracking systems that have been strategically installed around Johnny Reagan Field.
Â
The system utilizes 3D radar technology to measure numerous total pitching and hitting data points. On the mound, pitchers are able to track spin rate, release angle, tilt, and vertical and horizontal break and more. The technology will also be a useful tool for Racer hitters, capturing data points such as exit speed, launch angle, distance, hang time, point of impact and more.
Â
Since 2022, there has been a surge of new competitive resources into the baseball program, including:
Â
Additionally, the department is actively working on plans for a new outfield wall and a new scoreboard that will be funded through the private support of loyal investors and program alumni.
Â
Murray State began employing the technology during its final league series of the regular season when the Racers hosted Missouri State.
