Amazing Run To Omaha Ends for MSU in Loss to Arkansas

The team gave Racer Nation a thrill in the last 30 days as they took it all the way to the College World Series
The Murray State Racers bowed out of the 2025 NCAA College World Series Monday in a no-hit 3-0 defeat to the Arkansas Razorbacks at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Racers (44-17) amazing run in winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, the Oxford Regional and the Durham Super Regional came to an end on the no-hitter by Arkansas sophomore Gage Wood. The no-hitter against the Racers marked the first time since 2002 at Auburn.

Gage, who was a high school team of MSU's freshman shortstop Connor Cunningham, beat the Racers who only had one base runner in the eighth inning when Dom Decker was hit by a pitch.

- Among the Racers' efforts this season were some high finishes in the 86 seasons of MSU Baseball.
- Jonathan Hogart tied for MSU season record of 22 home runs that was set by MSU Hall of Famer Wes Cunningham (2010).
- Hogart had 26 doubles, second to Davis Sims who had 29 in 2018.
- Hogart had 88 hits for third in a single season to Cunningham's 95 in 2010.
- Dustin Mercer had 92 hits, second to Cunningham.
- Mercer broke his own single season record with 256 at bats, he had 249 in 2023.
- Mercer is second in all-time hits at 256 behind Tyler Lawrence at 266 (2014-17).
- Luke Mistone was third for a single season with 83.
- Carson Garner tied the MSU career RBI mark at 189, to share the record with Tyler Lawrence (2014-17).
- Garner finished his MSU career with 47 home runs, second all-time at MSU behind only Gary Blaine who hit 49 between 1981-84.
- Garner set the single season walks mark with 60, besting the 58 by Jack Perconte in 1974.
- Garner was second in career walks with 162, behind Jack Perconte had 167 between 1973-76.
- Dom Decker finished second in all-time single season hit by pitch with 15, Derek Yoder had 27 in 2015.
- Decker ended the season with a streak of 43 straight games of reaching base.
- As a team, the Racers set all-time season records for At bats, Runs, Hits, doubles, triples, RBI, games and wins.
- MSU also has averaged better than eight runs per game in back-to-back seasons for the first time as the 2024 averaged 8.14 runs per game and that was topped by the 2025 team at 8.60.
- The only other season in which MSU scored more than eight runs per game was in 1975 when the team scored 8.46 runs. MSU scored a record 650 runs in 2025, besting the 215 that the 2017 team scored.
- MSU didn't reach 100 home runs like they did in 2024, but in 2025 they more than made up for it with 245 extra base hits, as they set the doubles record at 148 and added 19 triples and 78 home runs.
- The MSU pitching staff set a new single season record with 293, besting the 280 by the 2023 staff.
- MSU's brilliant one-two punch of Isaac Silva and Nic Schutte saw each of them tie the MSU single season record of making 16 starts in 2025.
- Silva and Schutte join three others at the top with 16 starts including Austin Dubsky (2017), Jake Donze (2010) and Preston Hesley (2001).
- MSU's defensive prowess in 2025 is unmatched in program history as the team played more games than any team in history, yet had the fewest errors with only 46.
- MSU's .979 fielding percentage topped the previous mark of .969 by the 2019 team that made only 58 errors in 58 games.Â
- 2025 was the 86th season of collegiate baseball at Murray State & third in the Missouri Valley Conference.
- MSU made their fourth NCAA appearance (1975, 1979, 2003, 2025).
- The Racers are 7-10 all-time in the NCAA.
- The Racers were the first MVC team to advance to the CWS since Missouri State in 2003.
- Since the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament was expanded to 64 teams in 1999, Murray State was just the fourth regional No. 4 seed to make it to Omaha.
- The Racers join Fresno State (2008), Stony Brook (2012), and most recently, Oral Roberts (2023).
- The last time the Racers were on the losing end of a no-hitter was on March 2, 2002 at Auburn by a score of 9-0.
