The event honored Murray State’s Hall of Fame Coach, Velvet Milkman, who launched women’s golf at MSU in 1993

Murray State's Elin Tynan came home with a share of second-place to lead the Racers at The Velvet in Paducah, Kentucky.

Playing at the Country Club of Paducah, Tynan started the day four shots from the lead and made it into a four-way playoff with Sloane Biddle (Belmont), Constanza Quiroga (Troy) and Pennie Osterberg (UNC Asheville). Tynan made a par on the CC of Paducah par-5 18^th, as did Biddle and Osterberg, but Quiroga made a birdie to win the Medalist title.

Still, Tynan, a sophomore turned in a stellar performance on a tough golf course with scores of 75-73-7221 to lead the Racers, who finished with a share of fourth place on scores of 304-299-311=914.
Troy was the winner at 895, in front of UNC Asheville at 896.

The event marks the third playing of The Velvet, named in honor of Murray State 2024 Hall of Fame selection, Coach Velvet Milkman, who launched MSU women's golf in 1993 and served as head coach for 29 seasons until her retirement in 2022.

Next up for the Racers is an appearance at the Mizzou' s Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne (Sept. 22-23) in Columbia, Mo.
