Slow Start Sends Racers To Loss At Belmont

The Murray State dropped a 103-86 loss Saturday night to the Belmont Bruins at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Racers (16-7) fell to 8-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference as MSU comes home Tuesday (Feb. 3) to host the UIC Flames at 7 p.m. at the CFSB Center.
Fred King scored 22 points and Romon Doman added 17 points, while Brayden Shorter and Javon Jackson each added 12.
Despite trailing 22-4 nearly eight minutes into the game, the Racers made a run late in the period. Trailing 51-30 with just over two minutes remaining, Murray State closed on a 10-3 run, which featured interior scores from King and Jackson and 3-pointer from Doman to cut Belmont's lead to 54-40 at halftime.
One minute into the second half, the Racers got it down to a 13-point margin, but never got any closer.

- Belmont returns the game to Murray State on Feb. 15 at the CFSB Center.
- The 21st meeting between the Racers and Bruins produced the series third highest combined score of 189 points.
- The Racers and Bruins scored 195 when Belmont won at home 99-96 in 2014.
- Today is the fifth 100-point game (all vs NCAA D-I teams) the Racers have been involved in 2025-26 for either MSU scoring 100 or their opponents.
- MSU is 2-3 in such games.
- MSU defeated MVSU at home (Nov, 7) 108-60 and won in Las Vegas over Akron 115-100 (Dec. 13), but lost games at SMU (Nov. 11) 108-60, at Drake (Jan. 21) 101-90 and tonight at Belmont (Jan. 31) 103-86.
- The MSU single-season record for 100-point games is six in the 1989-90, 1994-95, 2018-19 seasons, although all of them had at least one 100-point game against a Non D-I opponent.
- The Racers have a busy week ahead with three games in seven days starting with UIC visiting Murray on Tuesday.
- MSU plays at Southern Illinois Friday night and home against UNI on Monday, Feb. 9.
