Racers fire 4702 in season opener at Kentucky

Murray State fell to Kentucky 4724-4702 on Saturday in Lexington, Ky., tallying scores of 2336 in smallbore and 2,366 in air rifle.
Five Racers finished in the top 10 individually, with Mallory Johnson leading the way in second and Ashley Haymond following in fifth.
Johnson was the top shooter of the match in smallbore, putting up a personal-best 592 with 37 centers to top the standings, while Lea Soulé placed third with a 589 and a match-high 39 centers. Caroline Martin took fifth with a 583 and Haymond placed eighth with a 581, while Ainsley McFarland and Emma Lawrence took 11th and 14th with a 572 and a 571.
After putting up a 581 in smallbore, Haymond went big in air rifle, firing a 597 with 51 centers to lead the Racers and place second individually. Johnson and Lawrence took sixth and seventh with matching scores of 591, as Johnson totaled 43 centers and Lawrence had 41. Soulé and Abby Ballard took 11th and 12th with scores of 587, and Martin followed in 13th with a 586.
Johnson led the Racers in aggregate, placing second overall with a 1183 and 80 centers, while Haymond took fifth with a 1178 and 80 centers of her own. Soulé placed sixth with a 1176, Martin took eighth with a 1169 and Lawrence rounded out the top 10 with a 1162.
