Murray State had five hitters reach double figures in kills to spoil Evansville's senior night, winning in four sets on Friday night in Evansville.
The Racers (6-19, 4-9 MVC) controlled all but one set, hitting a season-best .347 to win for the fourth time in their last six matches and for the second straight time on the road.
Murray State opened with its most efficient set of the season, hitting .577 with 16 kills and just one error on 26 attempts in a 25-16 win. Evansville answered in the second, hitting .429 while forcing six Racer attack errors to even the match with a 25-18 win. The third set was the tightest of the night, featuring four ties and two lead changes, but Murray State hit .333 with 15 kills to edge the Purple Aces 25-23. The Racers then took control of the fourth set, hitting .306 while holding Evansville to .125, and closed out the match with a 25-15 win.
Senior outside hitter Alexa Watts led the Racers with 13 kills on .367 hitting and a team-high 15 points, while Anne Makowski added 12 kills and Lily Evans finished with 11 kills and 13 points. Freshman middle blocker Maezi Snyder was the most efficient attacker on the floor, recording 10 kills on .471 hitting and leading the team with three blocks, while Mija Pristovnik rounded out the five double-digit hitters with 10 kills on .364 hitting and handled 25 serve receptions without an error.
Paige Brock ran the offense with 46 assists, a season-high four service aces and seven digs, and freshman Ada Tamturk returned to the starting libero spot with a match-high 21 digs and 21 errorless receptions.
Racer Notes
- The .347 hitting percentage is Murray State's season best, topping the .339 it hit in last Friday's sweep of UIC, and the Racers have now hit .232 or better in three straight matches.
- The Racers' .577 hitting percentage in the first set is their best in a single set this season, surpassing the .533 they hit in the opening set against UIC on Oct. 30.
- Murray State had five players record 10 or more kills for the second time in its last four matches, after doing it at Southern Illinois on Oct. 24 for the first time since Oct. 13, 2021, against Austin Peay.
- With six wins, Murray State has passed last season's win total of four, and the Racers' four conference wins are twice as many as they had in all of 2025.
- The win avenged Evansville's 3-1 victory in Murray State's home opener on Oct. 2 and gave the Racers their first win in Evansville since Nov. 8, 2024.
- Makowski reached 300 kills on the season with her 10th kill of the night, becoming the first Racer to reach that mark this season, and she has now recorded double-digit kills in five straight matches.
- Evans has recorded double-digit kills in four straight matches and is hitting .410 (45-11-83) over her last three.
- Watts has reached double-digit kills in five of the Racers' last six matches.
- Tamturk made her first start at libero since leaving the Oct. 10 match at UIC with an injury, and her 21 digs were the most by a Racer since her 32-dig performance against Indiana State on Oct. 3.
- The Racers' 11 service aces are their second-most of the season, behind the 12 they recorded against Evansville on Oct. 2, and Brock's four aces tie the most by a Racer in a match this season.
