Racers Drop Midweek Matchup at North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. - Murray State baseball fell to North Alabama in their first midweek action of the 2026 season, losing 15-5 in seven innings.
The Racers move to 2-2 on the year, dropping their last two contests.
Luke Mistone continued his strong start at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, extending his hitting streak to four games and notching his third multi-hit performance of the young season.
The Racers' woes on the mound came primarily in the form of free bases. MSU issued 11 walks, the most in a single game since surrendering 12 on Feb. 28, 2025, at Little Rock.
How it Happened
MSU started the game with a big first inning, plating four runs. It marked the fourth straight game the Racers have put runs on the board in the first inning, and the third time scoring multiple runs in the opening frame. All four runs came from free bases, as the Racers drew five walks and one hit batter.
UNA soon cut the lead to one with two home runs in the second inning. The Lions evened up the ballgame with a bases-loaded hit batter in the third. MSU quickly took the lead back in the top of the fourth with a Mistone single on a perfectly executed hit-and-run to bring the score to 5-4 in favor of Murray State.
North Alabama took decisive control from the bottom of the fourth inning onward, scoring 11 runs in the final four frames. UNA finished the game with 15 runs on 11 hits, drawing 14 total free bases as a team with 11 walks and three hit batsmen.
The Racers will look to bounce back this weekend when they face Butler in a four-game series set to take place in Cape Girardeau, Mo. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
