Racers Fall at Illinois State - Domon Joins Freshman 400-Point Club

The Murray State Racers dropped a 78-61 loss Wednesday to the Illinois State Redbirds at CEFCU Arena in Normal.

The Racers (19-10) fell to 11-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference and into third place with a pair of game remaining in the regular season. The Racers come home to the CFSB Center Saturday for the final regular season home game when the Racers host Evansville at 3 p.m. on Senior Day.

Romon Domon led the Racers with 18 points and also became just the 12th freshman in MSU program history to reach the 400-point mark, while Fred King added 14 points.

Early on, the Racers had their largest lead of the game of five points at 15-10 when Layne Taylor scored on a drive into the lane.

The homestanding Redbirds took the lead for good with 9:00 to go 22-19 on a 3-pointer from Ty Pence.

ISU had a 36-28 lead at halftime and hit the Racers with a 10-2 run to start the second half and were ahead by 18 points with 14:29 left.

- With two more blocked shots today, Fred King has moved into the top-10 for a single season in program history.
- King is tied with recent MSU Hall of Fame inductee, Cuthbert Victor and is three blocks from catching those in seventh place with 60 including: Jarvis Williams 2013-14 and Antoine Teague 1992-93.
- MSU's single season mark of 95 was set by Tony Easley in the 2009-10 season.
- Romon Domon became the 12th Racer freshman to top the 400-point mark.
- The last to do it was Ja Morant in 2017-18 with 405 points.
- The all-time freshman scoring mark for a single season is still Cameron Payne's 572 points in the 2013-14 season.
- The Racers are 2-7 this season when trailing at halftime.
- MSU came back twice from deficits at the intermission at Valparaiso and UIC.
- The Racers are 11-3 at home in the CFSB Center with one game remaining, Senior Day (Feb. 21) against Evansville.
