ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Murray State baseball was unable to overcome a dominant pitching performance from Lindenwood on Friday afternoon, falling 4-0 in the opening game of a three-game weekend set at Lou Brock Sports Complex.
The Racers (11-7) struggled to find a rhythm at the plate, managing just three hits on the day. After Kristofer Hokenson recorded a single in the first inning, the Lindenwood (9-9) pitching staff took command, retiring 20 consecutive Murray State batters.
The drought lasted until the eighth inning when Daylan Pena broke the streak with a single. Luke Mistone added the Racers' third and final hit of the contest in the ninth, but the rally stopped there.
On the mound, Nic Schutte (2-2) took the loss for Murray State. Schutte logged 4.0 innings and allowed four runs, three of them earned. He struggled with command at times, hitting three batters to tie his season high.
Jackson Ugo provided a bright spot for the Racers out of the bullpen. Ugo tossed 4.0 scoreless innings of relief, surrendering just two hits while striking out four. It marked the best outing of the season for Ugo.
Murray State will look to even the series tomorrow in game two. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CST.
