MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State Baseball dropped its fourth consecutive game 12-1 in seven innings Tuesday while hosting Southeast Missouri to open a four-game homestand. The loss results in a 2-0 season-series sweep for the Redhawks.
The loss was the Racers' fourth run-rule defeat of the season and the second in the month of April. The skid extends to four games, matching the longest losing streak of the season previously set from March 3 to 8.
The Murray State football team visited Johnny Reagan Field in the fourth inning, though its presence failed to spark a rally for the Racers.
Southeast Missouri (26-11, 8-4 OVC) put three runs on the board in the first inning and never relinquished the lead. The Redhawks secured the 10-run lead for the run-rule win after a six-run top of the seventh.
A committee of seven arms took the mound for Murray State (21-16, 7-5 MVC), with Joshua Fleming posting the longest outing. Fleming finished with a line featuring 2.2 innings pitched and three strikeouts.
Jack Wajda was given the ball to start the game, making his third start of the season. The redshirt junior was handed his second loss of the year after two-thirds of an inning pitched with three earned runs allowed.
Kane Elmy returned to the mound for the first time this season but surrendered hits on each of his first three pitches back and allowed three earned runs.
The Racers' bats tallied seven hits Tuesday but only managed one run—a solo home run from Colby Ott. It was Ott's first home run of the season. Kainen Jorge recorded the only other extra-base hit for the Racers, poking a bloop double down the right-field line.
Luke Mistone was the only Racer to record multiple hits, knocking two singles on the day.
