McCoy Hits Grand Slam as Racers Drop Series Middle Game to Boilermakers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Jackson McCoy launched his first career grand slam Saturday afternoon, but the effort wasn't enough to propel Murray State past Purdue as the Racers fell 11-4 at Alexander Field. The result marked the Racers' sixth consecutive loss to the Boilermakers.
McCoy's blast was his first home run of the season and the third grand slam of the year for Murray State (27-20, 12-6 MVC). The infielder also doubled in the second inning to record his second consecutive multi-hit performance, accounting for both of the Racers' extra-base hits on the day. The outing set new career highs for McCoy in both total bases and RBI.
Daylan Pena joined McCoy in the multi-hit column, finishing the afternoon with a pair of singles.
Purdue (31-15, 15-9 Big Ten) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Boilermakers plated all 11 of their runs in the first five frames, highlighted by a five-run outburst in the fifth.
Jacob Hustedde earned the start, allowing five runs across three innings of work. Hustedde (2-4) was tagged with the loss.
A committee of four Racer relievers combined to finish the contest, led by Derek Lebron. Lebron tossed three scoreless frames and struck out three to keep the Boilermakers at bay in the late innings.
The Racers and Boilermakers wrap up the series Sunday with a noon CT first pitch. The game will be available to stream on B1G+.
