MURRAY, Ky. – Despite strong performances from Conner Cunningham and Connor Chisolm, Murray State baseball dropped its sixth straight game Saturday, falling 10-8 to Indiana State at Reagan Field. The loss marks the program's longest skid since April 2022.
The contest was a back-and-forth affair that featured 18 total runs and 30 combined hits. The 30 hits were the most recorded in a single game for the Racers this season.
Murray State's 17 hits also marked the second-highest total against a Division I opponent in the 2026 campaign. Despite the offensive production, the Racers' 11 runners left on base highlighted a struggle to find the timely hit needed to overcome Indiana State's performance.
With the win, Indiana State (28-22, 14-6 MVC) takes the series and maintains its share of first place in the Missouri Valley Conference alongside UIC.
Conner Cunningham anchored the Murray State (27-24, 12-8 MVC) offense, finishing 4-for-4 and falling just a triple shy of the cycle. The sophomore's four hits tied a career high, highlighted by a two-run home run in the fifth inning that gave the Racers a temporary lead.
Connor Chisolm followed suit with a 3-for-3 performance, including two doubles, two runs scored, and two walks. It marked the first multi-double game of the season for the graduate student.
Luke Mistone, Parker Airhart, and Daylan Pena also recorded multi-hit efforts. Mistone tallied three hits, while Pena drove in two runs to secure his third multi-hit performance in the last five games.
On the mound, the Racer pitching staff used six different arms. Jacob Hustedde earned the start and provided the longest outing of the day, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing four runs.
Reese Oakley (0-3) was charged with the loss after yielding the go-ahead run in the ninth inning.
Murray State will look to snap the streak in the series finale tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Johnny Reagan Field at Taylor Family Park.
